Iranian President's important visit to Pakistan: Ishraq A. Hashmi

The peoples of Pakistan and Iran are brotherly Muslim countries, not only geographically but also in deep historical, religious, civilizational, literary, cultural and linguistic ties that have existed for centuries. During the reign of Muslim kings on the subcontinent, Persian was the official language, due to which, while the poetry of inspired poets like Hafez, Saadi and Rumi remained the common language in India, the famous poets of the subcontinent are very popular in Iran due to their Persian poetry. Iqbal's Persian poetry is especially a very effective means of establishing and strengthening the scientific, intellectual, religious and national ties between Pakistan and Iran. This is why very close relations have been maintained between Iran and Pakistan in every period since the partition of India and the establishment of Pakistan.

However, the recent Iran-Israel war, in which the United States openly supported Israel and practically participated in the war against Iran, led to the development of extraordinary feelings of love and solidarity for Pakistan at the national level in Iran due to the strong diplomatic and moral support of Iran from Pakistan. In this context, the arrival of Iranian President Dr. Masoud Peshmerga to Pakistan yesterday with a high-level delegation of his government is of special significance. This is President Peshmerga’s first visit to Pakistan, during which he will meet the President and Prime Minister of Pakistan and hold important talks. During his visit, the Iranian delegation will take forward the progress on trade agreements, border markets and other issues that were discussed during the visit of the late Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi to Pakistan last April. Before leaving for Pakistan, the Iranian President, while explaining the objectives of his visit to Pakistan, had said that the two countries are determined to increase the annual trade volume to ten billion dollars. He said that the two countries are cooperating in economic, scientific, cultural and border affairs.

Dr. Masoud Pezhakian highlighted on this occasion that during the recent Israeli aggression and American attack, Pakistan demonstrated complete solidarity with the government and people of Iran to defend Iran’s sovereignty. He said that Iran wants to promote border trade with Pakistan through land, air and sea routes and can access Europe through the Silk Road connecting China and Pakistan through Pakistan. He said that security and border issues are extremely important for both countries and regional security is possible only through mutual cooperation. The Iranian President said that the enemy is conspiring to create division among Muslims, but Iran will thwart these conspiracies. On the other hand, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif described the Iranian President’s visit as very important and expressed confidence that as a result, Pakistan-Iran relations will further strengthen. Islamabad's cooperation with Iran in promoting its trade through China makes it clear that Pakistan is fully committed to an independent and balanced foreign policy today. Along with increasing ties with Iran in important areas of life and maintaining evergreen relations with China, the long-standing cold war between Pakistan and the United States has also ended in recent days at the request of the United States itself. The reason for this clear improvement in Pakistan's position on the global stage is the excellent demonstration of Pakistan's defense capabilities in the recent war with India. However, to consolidate this position, it is necessary for Pakistan toIt should also be included among the world's major economic powers, and the promotion of Pak-Iran economic ties will certainly help in achieving this goal.
