Elections Are For Everyone

Caretaker Prime Minister Anwarul Haq Kakar has once again reiterated that the Caretaker Government will hold general elections in the country on the date given by the Election Commission and no political party will be left out of the electoral process. Yesterday, while talking to the delegation of Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the media in Peshawar, besides expressing his views on the situation of Palestine, Pak-Afghan relations, terrorism, negotiations with the banned TTP and the return of illegal foreigners, the Election Commission put it bluntly. He assured to hold the election on the given date. The Prime Minister explained to the question about ensuring a level playing field for all political parties that all the parties registered in the Election Commission have the right to field their candidates in the elections, no registered party has been left out of the election process.

Although the Prime Minister has been making it clear before that all political parties will be given equal opportunities to participate in the election process and no political party will be left out of the election process, but he repeatedly asked this question. The reason for raising it is the situation faced by the former ruling party Tehreek-e-Insaf after the illegal events of November. However, it is clear that Tehreek-e-Insaaf has not been banned due to these incidents and there is no possibility of it in the future. As far as the participation of the leader of this party in the election process is concerned, the cases against him are to be decided by the courts and the law will make its own way in this matter.

This situation is faced not only by Tehreek-e-Insaf but also by Muslim League (N), whose leader Mian Nawaz Sharif will have to face the cases against him on his return home after four years. There is also the possibility of going to jail and his participation in the election process is subject to acquittal in the cases, but there is no obstacle for his party to participate in the elections. The Caretaker Prime Minister clarified once again on the question that Nawaz Sharif went abroad under the court decision, if he returns, the Caretaker Government will act according to the laws. This situation is against the rule of law and democratic principles. Banning any political party in elections without clear constitutional and legal reasons is not only unjustified, but the result of keeping a party with public support out of the electoral process is its vote bank.

It can come out in the form of frustration and anti-state sentiments and how fatal this situation can be for national unity and solidarity, this matter does not need explanation. However, for political stability in the country, it is necessary to announce the final date of the elections and start the measures accordingly as soon as possible. Elections must be held so that an elected government can be established in the country, which will run the affairs of the state with full constitutional powers and thus pave the way for sustainable political and economic stability. It should be mandated under the agreed code of conduct that instead of making baseless accusations against others and negative use of social media, every party should follow.
