Few people have flakes in their hair but many do not know what causes dandruff in hair or scalp or the right way to go about it.
It seems like there is a lot of confusion regarding
this phenomenon known as dandruff. It’s just a regular scalp irritation that
it’s impossible to know much about. We then decided to eliminate all doubts
about what triggers dandruff and how we can ease the itchy, flaky scalp.
What Triggers Dandruff?

Dandruff is an issue where the scalp starts to scratch
and produce flakes and leaves you with hair and an inflamed scalp accompanied
by white particles. Moderate dandruff is dependent on many factors such as skin
dryness and poor hair reactions to products
At the worse end though, seborrheic dermatitis can
potentially influence dandruff as indicated by the Mayo Clinic as a chronic
inflammatory skin condition, which is partly attributable to variation in
yeasts and hormones.
Dr. Kim also seems to easily develop flake and thus
dandruff typically has a genetic component. Some other conditions like contact
dermatitis, eczema, and scalp psoriasis can cause flaking dandruff as well.
The best approach that anyone can take when it comes
to their dandruff – regardless of the cause – is to actually understand what it
is they are dealing with.
Okay, time to settle the score on the facts and
fallacies of dandruff.
Taking An Oil Remedy Would Enhance the Effect of
Dandruff.

While searching for the natural remedies for dandruff
I came across hot oil treatment as one of the homeopathic treatments. For the
results, one is required to apply warm coconut or olive oil directly on the
scalp. But does it work? It will help to moisturize the scalp when it is
inflamed. But if the flakes are due to an oily scalp, “putting more oil will
only make the situation worse and you will be stickier and greasier flakes,”
notes Anabel Kingsley, a trichologist at Philip Kingsley Trichological Clinic.
“Applying oils to the skin will also be uncomfortable.”
It's A Fact that Dandruff Has Its Roots In A Dry Scalp.

If the skin is dry or if you are experiencing a
contact dermatitis condition that results into dry skin, this will definitely
trigger itching and skin shedding.
But an oily scalp may also be a big cause. That just
because Malassezia yeast—those that are associated with seborrheic
dermatitis—derive nutrients from the oil (sebum) on the scalp and skin. They
grow because there is more of it there and because of this, this problem is
more likely to occur because you have an oilier scalp.
This is why it is important if you know whether your
scalp is sticky (has lots of chemicals on it) or dry before you apply the cure
for your dandruff.

Go back to my mum with a rattail comb still on my head
and with flakes all over my head. However, it dawned on me that getting into an
argument with Kingsley was not the right thing to do. ‘When your flakes are so
sticky and thick you need a comb, then you are likely to have a specific and
worse case,’ says Kingsley, such as scalp psoriasis. “Harsh or incorrect scale
removal is painful and can cause bleeding.” Leakage also makes the scalp become
infected.
The Scalp Does Not Require Exfoliation.

The act of exfoliating the scalp occasionally may
sound extreme, and it indeed is for many people. However, if you suffer from
dandruff – especially if you think that overproduction of care products is to
blame – an occasional exfoliation treatment might come in handy. It just feels
nice, too!
However, when it comes to recipes for DIY scalp scrub,
different recipes may include irritating ingredients or too harsh things,
according to Dr. Kim. However, opt for a medication that has the exfoliating
salicylic acid, such as Scalpicin.
If You Have Dandruff, You Can Wash Your Hair Less
Often.

Surprisingly, getting an over-the-counter shampoo is
the only sure way to eradicate most of the squid as the American Academy of
Dermatology puts it. You should wash your hair and hop between the
anti-dandruff shampoo at least twice a week. If you have natural hair, you only
need to use the dandruff shampoo once a week.
