The Bangladeshi model has fallen to the ground, the
Bangladeshi model has collapsed, that is, in a 'polite' language, they will say
that the Bangladeshi model has "went to the wall".
The Bangladeshi model stands for the hybrid system of
government, and the hybrid system of the state, in simpler terms, means a
system of government in which a nexus between the military and a particular
political party is unconstitutional. In which the powers and sources of
decision-making are not those written in the constitution, a system in which
freedom of expression, political opponents and dissent in every sector is
crushed by the power of the military, and instead Asakar should be given almost
complete autonomy in economic matters and freed from the shackles of
accountability. This was the model in Bangladesh.
What is the hidden lesson for us in the recent events of
Bangladesh? Before heading this way, know some facts. The mass protests that
started in Bangladesh at the beginning of July resulted in the escape of Sheikh
Mujibur Rahman's daughter, Hasina Wajid, from the country two days ago.
Initially, the protestors had only one demand that the quota system in
government jobs should be abolished in the country. Under this quota system,
thirty percent of the jobs were reserved for the descendants of the martyrs of
the 1971 war, and the majority of them were shared among Awami League workers.
In addition, about 26 percent of the jobs were reserved for women and other
backward classes. As a result, there were very few jobs left for common people.
When the protests started and gradually intensified, the quota system was
temporarily suspended under a court order. But maybe it was too late. The
protests escalated, the government increased repression to deal with the
protesters, people started dying, in the last two days around two hundred
protesters were killed. And then an item like 'my dear fellow countrymen'
happened. It should be remembered that for the last 15 years,
Hasina and the army have been ruling together as a 'sam page'
government, in these 15 years the number of missing persons has been
increasing, extrajudicial killings have been increasing, political opponents
have been rotting in jails and fake elections have been taking place. And then
as Hasina came under the brunt of the public fury, the army stood apart. The
hybrid system is created so that a face is available to abuse and eat shoes.
The Bangladesh army chief has said that a national government will be established
minus the Awami League. Under which clause of the constitution is this decree
issued? were doing, he did not say anything in this regard. In the high bird
model, only respect for the constitution is left, as soon as things get a
little 'serious', the gun comes out.
The quota system lit the fuse in the Bangladesh revolution,
but it was opening up India from within. Bangladesh's economic indicators have
been very impressive for some years, exports have increased to 50 billion
dollars, the growth rate is close to six, seven. However, per capita income has
increased and according to the World Bank report, two and a half million people
have been lifted above the poverty line in the last decade. But during this
period, external debt almost doubled, depleting foreign exchange reserves, and
post-Covid inflation. The problem was that the fruits of this development could
not reach the lower class as per their expectations. The common Bengali
believes that the benefits of this development have gone to corrupt politicians
and corrupt officials of institutions, which forms the basis of their hatred of
the system. The point is that the oppressed classes live in the hope of a
change in their condition, if this hope is broken, people have nothing to lose,
except their lives. Hopes were raised when news of prosperity began to arrive
in Bangladesh after decades of waiting, but once again the elites completely
hijacked this prosperity. Hendia started to open but there was no way for steam
to escape. Every dissenting voice was brutally stifled. This is called a
pressure cooker, and this pressure cooker has exploded in Bangladesh.
Another important thing, this whole movement in Bangladesh is
run by students, i.e. youth, and if compared, Pakistan's youth bulge is bigger
than Bangladesh. It seems, that is, according to the words of the poet,
"Gul Hua Hai Chirag-i-Mekhana... Now it is dark far away." You can,
but not for long. For us, there are deeper implications in this whole
situation. Every few years there are groups of fans of some Andy Bandi system,
sometimes the Egyptian model, sometimes the Burmese model and sometimes the
Bangladesh model, all of them crude, all of them outlandish. Any government
model that demotes the people from the position of citizens to the level of
subjects, any model that wants to continue on the basis of oppression and
injustice, is unsustainable. Sooner or later, such a model will end in
Bangladesh. It happens where today 17 crore people are standing bewildered on
the border of the unknown and... Hasina has escaped.
