Improper Use of Social Media

Army Chief General Syed Hafiz Asim Munir has also drawn attention to spreading
chaos in the country through social media. Addressing the Youth Convention
in Islamabad, he said that some elements are trying to spread chaos through
false news and propaganda in the media. He also referred to the blessed
verse of the Holy Quran in this regard. The meaning of which is that
without research and without understanding the truth, do not believe the news
or talk of any wicked person. Young people should not make their decisions
based on fake news on mobile only. The Army Chief has given a great and
excellent advice to avoid believing the false news and negative propaganda on
social media that harms the country and nations. Currently, fake and false
news are being spread through hundreds of fake social media accounts from
inside and outside the country. Unholy efforts are being made to create a
gap between the state and the people. A nefarious propaganda campaign is
being carried out to make people hate and create uncertainty about the Supreme
Judiciary. Many of these accounts are fake accounts operating from India
and some western countries.
Fake
accounts with fake names are also active in the country. Out of which
several accounts have been identified and action has been initiated against
them. The Army Chief is right to say that some elements are using social
media illegally and making it a satanic media. Investigations have
revealed that false and dirty propaganda is being spread not only internally
but also from foreign countries through social media by a certain group with
the aim of spreading chaos and disillusionment within Pakistan. There are
reports of such accounts being run in favor of this particular party and
against the state from the Indian state of Maharashtra. There are also
reports of anti-state campaigning by this particular party through social media
during and after the election. The aim of this campaign is to sabotage the
election results and to accuse the Election Commission of Pakistan, the
judiciary and the Pakistan Army of bias.
There are also reports that this party will either boycott the election on time
or try to mislead the people by alleging manipulation and rigging of the
results. Based on all these reports, it cannot be said whether these
people can really succeed in their efforts or not, but the government and state
institutions should take steps and be ready to thwart such efforts. No one
can be the government, but no one can be allowed to create chaos, uncertainty
and despair in the country. Freedom of expression does not mean parental
freedom at all and such freedom does not exist in any country in the world, nor
are any activities that may harm the country allowed. Strict action
against negative use of social media, spread of fake news and seditious
propagandists is very necessary. It is hoped that the concerned
institutions will not turn a blind eye to this in any way, nor will such impure
efforts be allowed to succeed.
