A famous moviemaker and a world traveler, James Cameron, who has experience in deep-water dives as well as making movies, has caused quite a stir among historians and other specialists following the results of his recent deep-water dive to the RMS Titanic wreck. Unfortunately, even as to facts, Cameron only teases with pointed statements that suggest that he might discover something that will revolutionize the understanding of the fate of the famous “Ship of Dreams. ”
Cameron, who publicized
the research involving the sinking of the Titanic, has since filming his famous
1997 movie, made severally descents to the wreckage site. This latest
expedition, however, appears to have produced something vastly more substantial
than unspoiled archive footage of the seabed. The surprises were disclosed in a
brief press release from Cameron late last evening, who stated that he’s
uncovered provocative truths about the disaster which were unknown.
Most people within the
historical and maritime industries are involved in different kinds of
speculation. Can these secrets have anything to do with why the ship sank? Were
there earlier undetectable flaws in the Ship that was famously marketed as
“unsinkable”? Indeed, did the iceberg impact reveal a concealed, severe, and
potentially fatal strike that the Titanic received?
Another hypothesis is more
or less associated with the aspect of the catastrophe, which involves people.
Was it possible that list of passengers or crew members could have been
misunderstood, and the exact picture of the disaster was not clear? Did Cameron
find something distinguishably heroic of the rescuers or something negligent of
the airlines that he never knew of before?
Further complicating the matter is the fact that Cameron recently expressed his dissatisfaction with the ongoing investigation regarding the 2019 ‘Titan’ submersible tragic incident. The fatal tourist submarine equipped with a newly designed carbon fiber body sank just near the Titanic’s ruins; all five aboard were killed. Various sources quote Cameron as the leading critic of the sub’s safety measures comparing the story of the “Titan” with the absence of legislation controlling the construction and operation of the Titanic.
Could the newly discovered
secrets of Cameron actually unravel a large network of negligence apart from
the general fate of the Titanic? Was the compensation issue the first sign of
the new tendency where profits were valued more than shipping safety? Yet, such
questions raise concerns and, at the same time, the possibilities of what
Cameron found out.
There are numerous
documents describing the sinking of Titanic and its investigation for more
detail together with the names of the passengers and witnesses. Yet, mysteries
remain. It can take many years to know the exact place where the iceberg hit
the ship leading to its sinking. Controversy over the sufficiency of lifeboats
provided on ships is still a raging issue even in the present.
The only way that Cameron
could have made this pronouncement is if he has found concrete proof that
definitively answers some of these questions. Could it be that he surfaced in a
hitherto unexplored area of the hull; that he realized the iceberg had done
even more extensive damage than was initially perceived? Did he find new,
heretofore unknown compartments or concealed areas of the ship, and gain some
insight into the behavior of passengers or crew as they sought to abandon the
vessel?
One cannot but mention the
potential for a technological breakthrough. He uses modern equipment for deepwater
exploration in his diving. Or maybe his team has come up with a better image or
scan of the wreckage that earlier went unnoticed. Perhaps it has come across
structural irregularities or possible damage that the Titanic went through that
could not be seen with the naked eye.
This anticipation for
details of the story is unbearable though gossip can be a force for good when
attempting to expose the truth. The historical community has been set on its
heels evaluating all the possible paths of these 'stunning revelations’. The consequence
can be even revolutionary and result in rewriting history, changing documentaries,
and even Cameron’s outstanding movie.
One thing is certain:
James Cameron has stirred interest and controversy. Big-phrased mystery of the
Titanic is back; it promises new materials for historians and new details that
might radically change our perception of one of the most touchingly sad historical
events.
