Indian Elections: Modi Lost Or Won? (Ishraq Ahmed Hashmi)

Narendra Modi, who rose from the chief minister of a province to become the prime minister twice, is going to become the prime minister for the third time, but this time he won and lost. The opposition alliance, which had renamed itself India, has also won by losing. After the election results, there was a celebration in the opposition headquarters and when Narendra Modi was giving his speech at the BJP headquarters, flowers were apparently being showered on him, but his body language and style of speech seemed to It was that they had won and lost and that all their intentions had been destroyed. This time Narendra Modi had set the target that he would win more than 400 Lok Sabha seats. As if they thought that if they won, they would win more than four hundred seats anyway. For this purpose, he used the state machinery and media well and the Indian media gave the impression till the exit poll that Modi would achieve his target, but when the results came out, it was found that Modi's BJP and its allies met. Kar did not get even 400 to 300 seats while his opponent Congress doubled its seats compared to the previous election.

Last time BJP alone could form the government with its own seats but this time it needs the support of allies to form the government. 272 seats are required to form the government, while BJP's own seats are only 240 and if the seats of other allies of the alliance called NDA are added, this number becomes 292. If those allies form the government with them, they will fulfill their conditions and Modi and Amit Shah will not have a free hand like last time. On the other hand, this time he will also face a newly emboldened opposition and there is a strong possibility that Narendra Modi will not be able to push his Hindutva agenda with the same momentum as the public response in the recent elections. . Modi's biggest blow came in Uttar Pradesh, where the anti-Modi and Congress ally Samajwadi Party won 37 of the 80 seats, defeating the BJP. This is the province where the Babri Masjid was martyred and Modi fulfilled his promise to the extremists to build a Ram temple there. Similarly, he fulfilled his promise to remove Article 370 to change the status of Kashmir and approved controversial laws like banning triple talaq, but his opponents got historic votes in Uttar Pradesh itself.

Narendra Modi adopted such methods to cross the four hundred mark in the current elections that India's elections looked like Pakistan's elections. He had controlled the media through pressure and greed to such a degree that it was becoming less of an Indian media and more of a Modi's media. It was as if the situation was created which is created about some politicians in Pakistan. He also used all kinds of tactics to suppress his political opponents and even made Aam Aadmi Party's Kejriwal visit jail. He also made full use of social media and there too he allowed very few voices against him. After the election results came out, Rahul Gandhi said in a press conference that he was not only contesting elections against Modi but also against the bureaucracy, election commission, secret agencies and media. But all these did not have any effect on the public and proved wrong not only Modi's but also all the estimates of Indian media and intellectuals. Although the nature is completely different, in one respect, the same thing happened there as in the previous elections of Pakistan. Here, like Narendra Modi, Mian Nawaz Sharif was hoping before the elections that he should win, but he also needed a two-thirds majority. Now when the results came, a two-thirds majority was not even a simple majority, and after the election results, claiming his victory, when he was giving his speech, he looked like Modi was claiming his victory.

The government in Pakistan was to be formed by the Muslim League and the People's Party, but after the election, the PTI people were celebrating, while in India, Modi is going to form the government, but the India Alliance is celebrating under the leadership of the Congress. Just as the Muslim League (N) in Pakistan was taunting the PTI that it was celebrating its defeat, similarly BJP spokespersons are taunting the Congressmen that they are celebrating their defeat. . In Pakistan, Shahbaz Sharif's government owes the support of the People's Party and it will continue to be blackmailed by the People's Party, while in India Modi will form the government, but this time he will also be supported by the regional alliance parties like Shahbaz Sharif. There will always be a risk of getting angry.

In Pakistan, if the People's Party breaks the alliance with the PML-N and joins with the PTI, then the body will turn around and both of them can form the government. If they go, they can form their own government. Narendra Modi also used the traditional cynicism in his election and kept accusing the Congress of being pro-Pakistan. He kept saying in the election rallies that Pakistan wanted to make Prince Rahul Gandhi the Prime Minister of India even though Pakistan had nothing to do with the election and could not play any role. Modi also kept using bad words about Pakistan and even kept saying that we would wear bangles to Pakistan but after the results that have come out, what will he wear bangles to Pakistan? .
