Islamabad (EWNTV) It has been learned that the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) will no longer arrest any member of the National Assembly arbitrarily in corruption cases. Informed sources say that in the meeting between Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq and Chairman NAB Lieutenant General (R) Nazir Ahmed, it was decided that NAB will be the first Speaker in the corruption case against any employee or member of the National Assembly Secretariat. Will approach the National Assembly.
The purpose of this understanding between Speaker National
Assembly and Chairman NAB is to ensure that no corruption case is filed against
any member of National Assembly and official of National Assembly Secretariat
on the basis of arbitrary or weak evidence and he is not arrested. should be
done Before taking action or arresting a member of the National Assembly or an
official of the National Assembly Secretariat on the charge of corruption, the
Speaker of the National Assembly should review the matter on its merits without
making any compromise.
Every case of corruption against the members of the National
Assembly or officials of the National Assembly Secretariat on behalf of NAB
will be sent to the Speaker of the National Assembly. When contacted, Speaker
National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq confirmed in a conversation with The News
that an understanding has been reached between the National Assembly
Secretariat and NAB. He assured that no compromise will be made on corruption
and no corrupt person will be protected. He said that the purpose of the
understanding between the two institutions is to ensure that no innocent person
is arrested arbitrarily without the availability of solid evidence and on this
basis any member of the National Assembly or the official of the National
Assembly Secretariat. should not be given bad publicity on the basis of mere
allegations.
The Speaker said that the cases that come to him will be
reviewed on merit. Meanwhile, official sources told The News that there is a
possibility of new SOPs being issued by NAB based on the agreement reached
between Speaker National Assembly and Chairman NAB. Similar SOPs can be made
for members of the Senate and members of the Provincial Assembly. NAB's move is
in line with its recently revised SOPs issued to protect traders and civilian
bureaucracy from unnecessary harassment. Like the bureaucracy and the business
community, politicians have also been arrested, jailed and harassed by the NAB
in the past. Corruption cases were made in an arbitrary manner and without
concrete evidence and references were filed against many politicians in
accountability courts. NAB presented him as a corrupt person but in most of the
cases the bureau failed to prove the charges in court. For this reason, the
Supreme Court has also said in the past that NAB has been repeatedly used to
target political opponents in the name of accountability.
