ISLAMABAD (Rana Ghulam
Qadir) The Federal Cabinet has approved giving authority to a designated
officer of a sensitive organization to intercept calls or messages or trace
calls in view of the fear of any crime in the interest of national security.
According to the Cabinet approved the summary through circulation, the Cabinet
has given this nomination authority under Section 54 of the Pakistan
Telecommunication Act, 1996.
The officer to be
nominated by the Agency shall not be below Grade Eighteen. Under Section 54,
the Federal Government has the power to designate any person in the interest of
national security or apprehension of any offense to intercept calls or messages
through any telecommunication system or Can trace the call.
