The Indian Government is Misleading the World About the Occupied Valley.

Despite New Delhi’s repeated claims of peace and stability, the ground reality in illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir tells a far darker story. Behind carefully curated images and diplomatic messaging lies an intensifying cycle of repression, demographic engineering, and systemic human rights violations. Independent voices, Kashmiri leadership, and international experts continue to warn that India’s portrayal of normalcy is a deliberate attempt to mislead the global community while silencing an entire population under military siege.

The All Parties Hurriyat Conference in illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir has condemned the Narendra Modi-led Indian government for spreading the white lie of peace and normalcy in the region to mislead the international community.

All Parties Hurriyat Conference spokesperson Advocate Abdul Rashid Minhas rejected the baseless claims of improvement in the security situation by India’s political and military leadership, saying that such claims are ridiculous as the entire area is under siege by the army and police. The spokesperson condemned the recent threatening statements by Indian military officials and BJP leaders, terming them as highly provocative and dangerous, saying that such rhetoric is pushing the region to the brink of a devastating war.

The Hurriyat spokesperson also appreciated the recent statement of Pakistan’s Field Marshal and Chief of Army Staff Syed Asim Munir, in which he reiterated Pakistan’s resolve to continue its moral, political and diplomatic support to the oppressed people of occupied Jammu and Kashmir. Until the Kashmir dispute is resolved in accordance with the UN resolutions and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people, support for the Kashmiris will continue. Kashmiris are grateful to the people and army of Pakistan for their unwavering support. India’s brutal measures, including the prolonged detention of Kashmiri leadership and crackdown on political organizations, cannot weaken the resolve of the Kashmiri people for freedom. India should understand that it cannot suppress the legitimate demand of the Kashmiri people for their right to self-determination through cruelty and barbarity.

UN Special Rapporteur on Minority Issues Fernand de Varens has warned that human rights violations in occupied Kashmir have increased dramatically since 2019. International organizations like the G20 should continue to support the implementation of the UN Universal Declaration of Human Rights and condemn the grave situation in Jammu and Kashmir. The Modi government wants to mislead the international community about the situation in Jammu and Kashmir. The situation in occupied Kashmir is extremely grave and in a letter to the Modi government in 2021, he also expressed concern about the situation in the occupied territory. The Modi government has resettled non-Kashmiris from India in large numbers in the occupied territory, in order to change the population ratio there. There has been a rise in large-scale human rights violations in occupied Kashmir. Political oppression and violence, restrictions, and restrictions on independent media are also increasing.

Indian intelligence agencies are also involved in this inhuman campaign and are martyring innocent Kashmiris and Pakistanis in fake encounters through forced and illegal detention. The lives of 732 innocent prisoners are in danger in various jails of India, while they are being deprived of any legal access. Since 2003, Indian intelligence agencies have also forcibly and illegally imprisoned 56 Pakistanis. In the current situation, it is feared that India may use these prisoners for its nefarious purposes to create another false flag operation.

The international community and human rights organizations have been appealed to take notice of these inhuman atrocities by India and ensure the protection of the Kashmiri people and prisoners. The war crimes of the Modi government have been exposed on the global stage and after the bomb blast in the capital, New Delhi, illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir is under Indian aggression, where the houses of innocent Kashmiris are being demolished.

The report says that since 2019, illegal arrests, communication lockdowns, and the politics of fear and terror have become weapons of Indian rule. The Modi government has criminalized political expression under the black law of the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA).

Political dissent is now leading to imprisonment, as well as the demolition of homes and confiscation of property of Kashmiri families. The report states that from 2020 to 2024, the Indian army destroyed or damaged the homes of 1,172 Kashmiris during its brutal operations.

Despite court orders, Kashmiris’ homes are being demolished without any judicial oversight or due process. The ongoing Indian state terrorism in occupied Kashmir is not only a grave violation of human rights but also a failure of the international legal system. Taking advantage of the silence of the international community, India is using the law to justify war crimes in occupied Kashmir.

Legal experts and human rights scholars warn that what is unfolding in occupied Kashmir is not merely a domestic issue but a systematic violation of international law. As one international human rights analyst notes, “When laws are weaponized to suppress an entire population, legality becomes a cover for impunity, not justice.” Another South Asian conflict expert observes that “Demographic engineering, collective punishment, and criminalization of dissent are classic indicators of state-sponsored repression under occupation.”

The continued silence of the international community has emboldened India to normalize these abuses. Occupied Kashmir today stands as a test case for the credibility of the global human rights system. Without sustained international scrutiny and accountability, the gap between India’s diplomatic narrative and the lived reality of Kashmiris will only widen — with devastating consequences for peace, justice, and regional stability.
