The Gaza Peace Agreement and the Flow of History

The world tends to go round in circles; the wars stop, the peace starts and history gently winds up into new horizons. But there are battles that remain so long that they become a part and parcel of the historical memory of generations. One of these wounds on the map of humanity is the Palestine-Israel conflict—a tale of defeat, religious adherence and stubbornness. Since the early shouts of occupation through the rubble of Gaza to date, it has not only challenged the political strength but also challenged the world's moral conscience. And now, when the world hangs quiet to see the long-awaited Gaza Peace Agreement being signed, the question is, is it the beginning of a new history or just another page of a tragedy that is still going on?

This world is full of changes. If you look at history, you will see how periods and events have occurred and then changed. Allama Iqbal had said:

Fearing the new constitution is like flying on a kite.

This is the difficult destination in the lives of nations.

The message of this poem is also based on the fact that we should be ready for change. Ever since our generation regained consciousness, we have been listening to the Palestinian issue. The first person who became our hero was Yasser Arafat.

He became a metaphor for the Palestinian struggle for freedom. Then many stories started circulating about him. He could not liberate Palestine in his lifetime, but Israel's footprints continued to spread. Pakistanis probably considered Palestine their problem the most in the world. Films were made on it, plays were performed, and literature was created. Gradually, we came to the conclusion that Palestine will remain in the Middle East or Israel cannot coexist. The reason for this was that Israel was created and settled by occupation. This thought also found its place in the Middle Eastern countries, and the Palestinians themselves were determined to expel Israel from the land of Palestine. The biggest supporter of the Jews of Israel was America, because the American economy itself is under the control of the Jews. Yesterday, President Donald Trump was saying that Netanyahu always asked me for the latest weapons, and we gave them. He also made the best use of them. Remember that the best use means that he destroyed Palestinian-populated cities brick by brick and martyred thousands of unarmed Palestinians.

As if on one side, Israel had the full support of America, and on the other side were the Palestinians, who did not even openly receive the support of Muslim countries.

For example, no Islamic country used to help the Palestinians financially or purchase weapons out of fear of America; the history of what America did to the countries that tried to do so is in front of everyone. Iran, Iraq, Egypt, and Syria have all suffered the consequences of this. It is the hard work and courage of the Palestinians that they are steadfastly fighting against Israeli aggression. They also caused heavy casualties and kept the Palestinian issue alive. They did not leave their territory and continued to resist the Zionist occupation. The atrocities that the Palestinians have endured in recent modern history are unparalleled anywhere else. Women, children, the elderly, and the young all sacrificed their lives but did not move from their ruins. This is a bright chapter because of which the Palestinians are recognized in the world.

Since Hamas took over the front of resistance, many problems have arisen for Israel and the United States. The biggest problem was that the Jewish people, who are also cowards and lacking in faith, criticized their own government and the United States because of Hamas's repeated attacks. The Jews themselves demonstrated against the war on the streets of America and called for peace, but it was not in the power of the United States itself to swing a stick and make the Middle East, especially Jerusalem, safe from Hamas attacks, because Israel was facing huge resistance anyway. There was a time in recent times when the United States exerted all its pressure and stopped Islamic countries from helping the Palestinians, and even the OIC became inactive and was limited to just verbal donations. Of course, Iran, Russia and China continued to raise their voices in their favor and continued to help them. Hamas's actions always worried Israel. In response, Netanyahu made a brutal decision to wipe out the entire Palestinian population, including Gaza, which had the full support of the United States. As a result, Gaza was reduced to ruins, thousands of Palestinians were martyred, and millions were displaced.

Despite all this, it was not possible for the United States and Israel to wipe out the Palestinians. One fact was this, and the other fact had also developed in the past years: that Israel has also become an inevitable reality in the Middle East.

Now it is time to decide who recognizes these ground realities and how quickly. It is not possible for us Muslims to digest Israel because we have been watching its atrocities for years, and with its aggression, it has become a stain on the forehead of humanity. Now this is the stand on which we can spend the next hundred years standing. The same crying, the same barbarity of Israel, the same oppression of the Palestinians, and the same resistance of Hamas, but is the fate of the Palestinians left to have children and be roasted by Israeli missiles and bullets? Don't they have the right to live a peaceful life with freedom? Israel has a superpower standing behind it; who is behind the Palestinians? Verbal support from scared Islamic countries, and that's it.

If the stalemate of several decades has been broken, it should be accepted as a natural wave of change. The signing of the Gaza peace agreement in Sharm el-Sheikh is a historic moment. The Palestinians have been recognized as a fundamental party to this peace agreement.

Islamic countries, including Turkey, Egypt and Qatar, were present in Sharm el-Sheikh with Trump to sign the agreement. Pakistan also showed practical support for the agreement by its presence on this occasion. Regardless of how devastating the storm of history has been, if the two-state system has been recognized in Gaza according to this agreement, then this is good news. The Palestinians have had the opportunity to breathe a sigh of relief after several decades and will be able to sleep peacefully at night. The smile on their faces is an indication that they are happy with this agreement. The wheel of history must move forward. If this biggest conflict in the Middle East, which caused so much destruction there, ends up leading to a good outcome, then it should be considered a success that changes the course of history.

Nothing, however, concludes history like signatures; how nations do so is the beginning. The Gaza Peace Agreement might never undo the decades of suffering, yet it will bring a slender piece of hope, which will require patience, trust, and world goodwill. Peace to Palestinians is not only the lack of war but also to live, to carry on reconstruction of homes, and to regain dignity that has been denied to them. The dilemma is how to safeguard this issue without it becoming another promise that is broken. Just in case the world could secure justice in a peaceful way, not peace without justice, it might be the first time that the stream of history leads to light instead of destruction.
